Taurus rising

A settled, unhurried presence: you take the room in through the senses first, you are hard to rush and harder to move once you have decided, and what you build tends to last.

What Taurus rising is like

Taurus rising gives a body and a manner that reads as solid. Movements are deliberate, the voice is often pleasant, and there is an unmistakable reluctance to be hurried. Where Aries rising acts first, Taurus rising waits, watches and then commits fully. The commitment is the point: once a Taurus Ascendant has said yes, it is very difficult to get a no out of it afterwards, and the same goes for its opinions, its habits and its loyalties.

The sign is Venus-ruled and fixed earth, which shows up as a strong attachment to comfort and to things that can be touched: good food, a well-made object, a garden, a home that feels like a shelter. Money matters, not from greed but because security matters and money is one form of it. The shadow of the sign is inertia — staying in a job, a relationship or a routine long past the point where it serves, because leaving is a kind of movement and movement is expensive.

The Descendant is Scorpio, so the partners who arrive are often intense, private and transformative, and the relationship asks the Taurus Ascendant to let go of something it would rather keep. The chart is at its best when its steadiness is turned toward growth rather than toward holding still.

The chart ruler: Venus

Venus rules Taurus and sets the tone of the whole chart. Venus in an earth or water sign, or in Taurus, Libra or Pisces, gives the sign its full warmth and taste; Venus in Aries or Scorpio, or squared by Saturn, makes the same person more guarded about what they want and slower to enjoy what they have. The house of Venus shows where pleasure and value are sought.
