The twelve rising signs
Your rising sign (the Ascendant) is the sign coming up over the eastern horizon at the minute you were born. It changes about every two hours, which is why the birth time matters: it sets the first house, so the whole wheel of houses turns with it, and its ruling planet becomes the chart ruler — the planet that speaks for the chart as a whole.
