Venus and Lilith · desire outside the arrangement
Venus in aspect to Lilith
Venus is what draws a person and Lilith is what they were told not to want. In contact, attraction runs to what is not sanctioned — by family, class, respectability or the person's own stated preferences. There is real erotic force here and a recurring argument between wanting to be chosen and refusing the terms on which choosing is offered. The argument is not resolvable by picking a side; it settles only when the person stops treating the two wants as a contradiction requiring judgement. Both wants are real, and neither is going to be talked out of existence by the other.
What each body brings
| Venus | love, value, pleasure |
|---|---|
| Lilith | the untamed and the refused |
The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
A trine or a sextile makes the appetite frank and unembarrassed. Desire is owned rather than negotiated, which others read as confidence. Artistic work benefits: the pairing has no interest in a pretty version of anything, and the results tend to be the pieces people remember out of an otherwise agreeable body of work. Nobody has to be persuaded of anything, which is what makes the appetite comfortable to be around.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposition, love and refusal fight. Partners are wanted and resented for being wanted, and closeness triggers a need to prove independence. Naming the terms out loud, before the relationship, saves years of testing them afterwards — the testing is the expensive route to the same information, and it usually damages the person being tested. Stating a term is cheaper than proving it, and considerably less destructive.
The conjunction
Conjunct, what is desired and what is forbidden coincide. It is a powerful and inconvenient placement, often visible as someone who cannot be made respectable and stopped trying some time ago. Attraction operates outside whatever the family or the class expected, and the person is generally clearer about that than anyone around them. Respectability was never actually available on terms this person could accept.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
