Vesta is focus and consecration: what a person sets apart and keeps undiluted. On the Sun it becomes the shape of the identity. Such people are known for a devotion — to a craft, a cause, a practice — and can seem narrow to anyone who does not share it. What looks like sacrifice from outside is generally experienced from inside as relief, since a life with one obligation in it is considerably simpler than a life spent choosing between several. Friends and family are not neglected so much as fitted around a fixed point, and most of them work out where that point is within a year of meeting the person.

The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
Trine or sextile, the focus is sustaining rather than costly. The person gives themselves to the work and still has a life, which is the difficult half of this arrangement solved. The dedication reads to others as calm rather than as pressure, and people are drawn to it for that reason. Colleagues tend to find them restful to be near, because there is no ambient competition for attention coming off them and no evident anxiety about the work.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposition, the devotion and the person compete. Everything else is starved to feed the one thing, and the achievement arrives alongside a life that has quietly emptied. Protecting one commitment outside the work is the correction, and it has to be a real one with another person in it, since anything that can be rescheduled will be.
The conjunction
Conjunct, to be is to be dedicated. It produces monks, obsessives and people of genuinely single purpose, and the trouble usually comes when the purpose finishes. Retirement, or the completion of the great project, is the hazard rather than the reward, and it is worth planning for a decade before it arrives. Anyone with this contact who has just finished something large should be watched, kindly, for about six months.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
