Sun in aspect to North Node
The Sun is the direction a life is already pointed; the North Node is the direction it has not yet learned. When they are in contact the two agree more often than not, which reads as someone whose growth and whose identity are the same errand. Development feels less like self-improvement and more like becoming legible to oneself, and the people who assist it usually turn up unbidden. There is rarely a moment of deciding to change; there is a long sequence of doing the next obvious thing and looking up some years later to find the shape of it.

The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
Trine or sextile, opportunities to grow arrive in a shape the person can accept. Doors open in the right decade and are walked through without much drama. The one hazard is that nothing forces the issue, so an easy version of the life can be lived indefinitely and will look, from outside, entirely successful. Nobody intervenes with this configuration, because there is no visible problem to intervene about.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposition, what the person is and what they are meant to be reaching for keep pulling apart. Success in the established direction is real and quietly unsatisfying. The correction is rarely dramatic; it is a series of small choices made against the grain of what already works. Each one costs something concrete and returns nothing measurable for years, which is why most people with this contact make several false starts before one of them holds.
The conjunction
Conjunct, identity and direction are one thing, and a solar eclipse near the birth is likely. Such people often carry an early and unreasonable certainty about what they are for, and spend years finding out what it actually meant. The certainty is usually right about the register and wrong about the particulars, so the life looks like a long correction of detail rather than a change of mind.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
