South Node in aspect to Vesta
The South Node is what is already practised and Vesta is dedication, so this marks a discipline the person has been keeping so long they no longer question it. The commitment is real and admirable and was quite possibly taken up before they were old enough to choose. Whether it still deserves them is the unasked question, and the reason it goes unasked is that the practice has never failed them — it simply may no longer be the thing they would pick. Nothing will raise the question except a season away from it.

The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
Trine or sextile, the long-standing practice sustains. It costs nothing to maintain and gives back reliably, and there is no particular reason to examine it, which is both the comfort and the limitation. It is one of the few configurations in a chart that asks nothing of the person and quietly gives back for a lifetime. It is a genuine inheritance and asks no interrogation at all.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
A square or an opposition makes the devotion an obstruction. Time and energy are given to something that stopped repaying them, and the giving is defended as loyalty. Setting it aside for a season, reversibly, answers the question — and the answer is often that they miss it, which is worth knowing too. A reversible experiment answers a question that decades of loyalty never will.
The conjunction
Conjunct, the dedication is inherited. Such people are keeping a flame somebody else lit, competently and for a very long time. Whether they would have chosen it is a question that usually arrives in middle life. Where the inherited practice is a good one this is a considerable gift, and the question of authorship never needs settling.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
