Saturn in aspect to Pluto

Saturn is structure and time; Pluto is what strips a thing down so that it can be built again. Their contact concerns endurance under pressure. Capacity for sustained, difficult work is exceptional, and the person is able to face circumstances that others find unbearable without much visible reaction. Life usually includes at least one period of substantial rebuilding. Themes of authority and control run through the pairing, in the handling of one's own power and in encounters with institutions. This is a serious combination and not a grim one; what it mainly produces is people who can be relied on when the situation is bad.

The soft aspects (trine or sextile)

A trine or a sextile gives resilience that is available without cost. Hard work is undertaken calmly, crises are managed rather than survived, and the person is trusted with responsibility that others would find heavy. Recovery after loss is thorough. The intensity is manageable enough to be overlooked, and a capacity of this kind does better with something demanding to be aimed at.

The hard aspects (square or opposition)

Square or opposed, the pressure is felt directly. Ambition meets obstruction, control becomes contested, and there are periods where a great deal has to be given up before anything can be rebuilt. Naming that honestly matters; so does saying that it moves. This configuration produces genuine strength and considerable competence with difficulty, and the strength is usually apparent to everyone except the person holding it.

The conjunction

Conjunct, endurance and transformation are one process. Work is undertaken at a depth and over a timescale that few would attempt, and results arrive slowly and then substantially. The person is formidable in a crisis and reticent about it afterwards. Rest and ordinary pleasure need deliberate scheduling, since the placement supplies neither, and periodic rebuilding is its normal rhythm rather than a setback.

Reading it in a chart

The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
