Pluto in aspect to South Node
Pluto concerns control, survival and what is buried; the South Node says the person has been managing all three the same way for a long time. There is formidable resilience here, an instinct for leverage, and a reflex toward secrecy that was once entirely justified. The strategy works. It also keeps the present arranged to suit a threat that has passed, and the arrangement is invisible to the person because it has never failed and therefore never drawn attention to itself. Asking what the strategy is currently protecting against is a fair question and rarely has a current answer.

The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
With a trine or a sextile the depth is simply available. The person survives what others do not and does it without drama, holds confidences absolutely, and can be relied on when things are severe. Nobody has to ask them to be discreet; it does not occur to them to be otherwise. That reliability is why they tend to be told things nobody else in the family knows.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposition, the old defence attacks the new life. Control is applied where trust is required, and the relationships that could change things are tested until they break. Each cycle confirms the belief that produced it, which is what makes the pattern so durable: every ending is experienced as evidence rather than as consequence. Nothing internal to the cycle can correct it, which is why the correction arrives from outside.
The conjunction
Conjunct, survival tactics have hardened into character. Such people are powerful, private and slow to be known, and generally underestimate how much of their ordinary conduct is still defensive. The strategy worked once, comprehensively, which is why it has never been revised, and why the revision when it comes tends to be forced rather than chosen.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
