Pluto and North Node · growth that will not be negotiated
Pluto in aspect to North Node
Pluto compels and the North Node directs; where they meet, development is not optional and is not gradual. The life reorganises around a small number of episodes that could not be avoided and did not ask permission. Power, and the person's relationship to it, is usually the subject, and the earliest lessons about it tend to be the ones being revised. Between the episodes very little appears to happen, which misleads everybody including the person, since the material is accumulating the whole time. Quiet decades are not stalled ones under this contact, whatever they feel like.
What each body brings
| Pluto | power, depth, regeneration |
|---|---|
| North Node | appetite, growth, direction |
The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
With a trine or a sextile the intensity is directed rather than explosive. Deep changes are made deliberately and hold. The person can sit with material others avoid, and is trusted with it accordingly — which is how they end up holding a great deal of other people's difficulty without ever having applied for the position. People bring them things nobody else has been told, and it accumulates.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposition, the growth is resisted until it becomes a crisis. Control is exerted over the exact area that needs to be let go, and each round costs more than the last. What ends the cycle is usually a loss that removes the option of control entirely, and the person afterwards is generally not sorry it happened, which is the strangest and most consistent feature of this configuration.
The conjunction
Conjunct, the direction of the life has an obligatory quality. Such people describe their turning points as things that happened to them, and they are not entirely wrong; the participation is in what gets built afterwards. That distinction matters, because the building is where any freedom in the arrangement actually lives, and it is generally where they are least attentive.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
