Neptune in aspect to Vesta
Neptune dissolves and Vesta keeps apart; the contact is the natural signature of contemplative practice. Prayer, meditation, long solitary making — anything where the point is to disappear into the activity. The transcendence is available and genuine here, and the same porousness makes it easy to give the devotion to something unworthy of it: a teacher, a movement, a person who is happy to receive that quality of attention and will not be improved by it. Choosing the object of the devotion carefully matters more here than in any other Vesta contact.

The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
Trine or sextile, the practice is nourishing and stays grounded. The person retreats regularly, returns intact, and can describe what they do without mystifying it, which is the mark of somebody actually doing it. The absence of mystification is what lets the practice be taught, and this configuration produces some unusually good teachers of things that are hard to describe.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposition, the dedication loses its object. Enormous devotion is offered to a person, a movement or an idea that will not hold it, and the disillusion is severe. Asking what the practice is actually producing is a fair and unwelcome question, and it is better asked by a friend than discovered by collapse. Friends who notice early are worth listening to, and are usually ignored.
The conjunction
Conjunct, the sacred and the dissolved are one. It makes genuine mystics and equally genuine casualties, and the difference is usually whether anybody else was allowed near it. Solitary practice with no witness is where this goes wrong. A regular hour with somebody sceptical and fond does more preventive work here than any amount of additional practice.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
