Neptune in aspect to South Node
Neptune dissolves and the South Node has dissolved this way before. There is a familiar retreat available — into imagination, substances, service, someone else's life — that has worked often enough to be trusted. Real sensitivity and real artistry come with it, and so does a practised ability to be somewhere other than where the difficulty is. The skill is not fantasy; it is a genuine capacity for absence that the person can deploy in a room without anybody noticing they have gone. People close to them can often name the exact moment the person left the conversation while still sitting in it.

The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
Trine or sextile, the imagination is an inheritance rather than a leak. Compassion is easy, creative work flows, and the person can enter other people's states and come back out. It costs little, so it is rarely questioned, and there is not much reason to question it. It is one of the few genuinely benign versions of a Neptune contact.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposition, the vanishing act interrupts the growth. Clarity is available and declined; responsibility is handed to whoever will take it. Naming the thing out loud to one person is a disproportionately effective remedy, because the configuration's whole defence depends on the situation never being stated in plain words. The other person does not have to do anything about it; they only have to hear it said.
The conjunction
Conjunct, the escape route is the well-worn one. Such people are gentle, porous and difficult to locate, and the difficulty is not evasiveness so much as long practice at not being pinned down. Those close to them often describe a sense of talking to someone who is agreeing warmly and is not entirely present.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
