Pluto concerns depth, power and thorough change; the Moon concerns need, attachment and the private self. Their contact makes the emotional life intense and largely subterranean. Feelings run deep, bond quickly and do not release easily. There is remarkable perceptiveness about what others are hiding, and a corresponding reluctance to be read in return. Early family life often carried an undercurrent of power that was felt rather than discussed. Emotional crises recur and function as thresholds; the person is repeatedly remade through them. Loyalty is total, and so is the memory of any breach of it.

The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
Trine or sextile, the depth is something a person can live alongside. Emotional resilience is high, difficult material is faced rather than avoided, and other people's confidences are held safely. Work involving crisis, illness or psychology suits the contact well. Because the intensity is manageable, it is often underused, and the person may take for granted a capacity that would be remarkable if directed.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposed, attachment and control get tangled. Jealousy, fear of abandonment and a difficulty in letting go of what is over all belong to this contact, along with encounters that force the issue. It is honest to name that and equally honest to say it moves: this configuration generates more genuine psychological development than almost any other, and the intensity becomes an instrument once it has been understood.
The conjunction
Conjunct, need and depth are the same substance. Emotional experience is absolute, privacy is essential, and the bond formed is a bond kept. Perception of undercurrents is close to infallible and can be hard to switch off. Periodic emotional rebuilding is the normal rhythm of the placement rather than a malfunction. Trust, once extended, is complete; extending it at all takes a long time.
