Mercury in aspect to South Node
Mercury is already articulate and the South Node makes it effortless. This is someone who can explain, argue and improvise without preparation, often from a skill picked up so early that it feels like temperament rather than training. The difficulty is that fluency is persuasive to its owner: a ready answer arrives before a better one has a chance to. Being right quickly and being right are different achievements, and this configuration is built to confuse them. A second thought, deliberately waited for, is the entire practice this configuration is being asked to acquire.

The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
Trine or sextile, the facility is simply an asset. Old knowledge transfers cleanly to new subjects and the person teaches without effort. Nothing obstructs the growth here except how pleasant the existing skill is to use, which is enough on its own to keep somebody in the same register for thirty years. Nothing external will ever suggest a change, so any change has to be self-imposed and will feel arbitrary.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposition, talking replaces moving. The situation is described brilliantly and left exactly as it was, or an old opinion is defended past the point where it is believed. Saying less, on purpose, is the discipline that works — and it is genuinely difficult, because the silence has to be held long enough for someone else to fill it.
The conjunction
Conjunct, the mind runs on rails that were laid early and run smoothly. Such people are quick, quotable and frequently repeating themselves without noticing, and they are the last to hear it. The phrases that land well get used again, and the reuse is invisible from the inside because each delivery feels spontaneous. A recording, or a friend willing to be blunt, is the only reliable way of finding out.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
