Mars in aspect to Neptune
Mars is direct and Neptune is diffuse, so the contact between them complicates the ordinary business of wanting something. Energy comes in tides rather than at a steady rate, motivation depends on inspiration, and effort applied to a merely practical goal tends to evaporate. Given something to believe in, the same person is capable of considerable and selfless work. Dance, film, music, healing and service occupations suit the pairing. Anger is difficult to express directly and often turns inward or sideways. Physical stamina benefits from rest, water and a certain amount of protecting.

The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
A trine or a sextile gives inspired action that finds its outlet. Physical grace is common, as is the capacity to work hard for something that has no personal payoff attached. Imagination and effort cooperate rather than compete. Because there is little friction, the drift can go uncorrected, and a talent this dependent on inspiration may wait for it longer than a schedule allows.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposed, the aim is unclear and the energy is unreliable. Motivation rises and falls, anger is swallowed and reappears as fatigue or evasion, and effort can be spent on causes chosen for their appeal rather than their merit. Escapist habits warrant plain attention. Given a structure and a deadline, this contact produces work of unusual imaginative quality; the structure is what it is missing.
The conjunction
Conjunct, action and imagination fuse. Effort follows feeling, so the person is tireless for what moves them and immovable about what does not. Physical sensitivity is high and stamina is variable. Compassion frequently takes an active form, in care work, activism or art. Direct anger is genuinely hard to access here, and learning to state a plain objection early saves a great deal of indirect trouble later.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
