Mars and Lilith · rage with the lid off
Mars in aspect to Lilith
Mars is the will to act and Lilith is the part that will not be governed. The combination produces someone very hard to coerce. Anger is available in full and has usually been in trouble for being available in full. Used deliberately it is formidable; used automatically it burns arrangements the person actually wanted to keep. The distinction between the two modes is not obvious from inside, and most people with this contact learn it by losing something. The losing is usually a job, and it is usually about a request rather than about the work.
What each body brings
| Mars | drive, desire, conflict |
|---|---|
| Lilith | the untamed and the refused |
The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
Trine or sextile, the force is proportionate and unapologetic. The person defends themselves and others without escalation and without asking whether it is allowed, which makes an excellent advocate and a very poor subordinate. Anger arrives at the right size for the occasion, having not been stored up first. Institutions find them difficult and the people inside those institutions frequently do not.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
A square or an opposition sets the fuse short. Authority is provoked for its own sake, and the fight is entered because being managed is intolerable rather than because the ground was worth it. Choosing the battle deliberately is the whole discipline, and it requires noticing the difference between an instruction that is wrong and one that is merely an instruction.
The conjunction
Conjunct, drive and defiance are one. There is real courage here, particularly on behalf of people who cannot fight for themselves, and a permanent difficulty with anyone who gives instructions. The pairing does not distinguish well between a reasonable request and an attempt at control, and tends to answer both the same way. Managers learn this early, and the good ones stop giving instructions and start giving reasons.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
