Jupiter and Pluto · conviction and power
Jupiter in aspect to Pluto
Jupiter enlarges and Pluto concentrates, so their contact produces intensity of belief and a considerable appetite for influence. Convictions are held deeply and pursued with resources; the person is capable of large-scale effort toward a purpose and of the persuasion required to bring others along. Finance, reform, research and any position of significant responsibility suit the pairing. Regeneration is a theme: enterprises are rebuilt rather than abandoned. The risk sits in the same place as the strength, since a belief held this strongly is difficult to revise, and influence is easier to accumulate than to relinquish.
What each planet brings
| Jupiter | growth, faith, generosity |
|---|---|
| Pluto | power, depth, regeneration |
The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
Trine or sextile, purpose runs deep and runs smoothly. Resources are attracted, projects of real scale get carried through, and the person recovers from reverses with the plan largely intact. Persuasion is effective and generally used well. Because the power comes easily, its extent may be underestimated by the person exercising it, which is worth periodic attention.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposed, conviction and power grate against each other. Beliefs are asserted with more force than the occasion needed, ambition can overshoot, and contests with institutions or authorities recur. There is nothing predestined about the outcome. The friction produces an unusually clear understanding of how power actually operates, and charts with it often end up using that knowledge carefully.
The conjunction
Conjunct, belief and intensity are one thing. Purpose is large, sustained and not much troubled by opposition; the person aims at a scale most people would consider unrealistic and sometimes reaches it. Wealth and influence are frequent themes. The placement rebuilds after loss almost automatically. What it requires is a periodic check on whether the conviction has been examined lately or merely repeated.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
