Jupiter in aspect to Pallas
Jupiter looks for the general principle and Pallas finds the structure underneath the particulars. Together they make a natural theorist — somebody who sees how a whole field fits and can teach the shape of it. Law, philosophy, systems of any kind. The failure mode is a scheme that is beautiful, comprehensive and not quite in contact with the evidence, and its beauty is what protects it from correction: nobody wants to be the person who spoils it with an awkward case. The awkward case is usually already known to somebody in the room and unmentioned for exactly that reason.

The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
With a trine or a sextile, breadth and precision support each other. The person generalises accurately and can say where the generalisation stops, which is the mark of somebody worth listening to and is much rarer than the generalising. Knowing the edge of one's own generalisation is the difference between a theorist and an enthusiast. Saying where a claim stops is the part that earns the rest of it.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposition, the big idea and the working detail disagree. Either the theory swallows the exceptions or the exceptions prevent any theory. Stating what would falsify the idea is the discipline that helps, and the reluctance to state it is itself diagnostic. A framework that cannot be wrong about anything is not doing any work. Naming one falsifying case in advance is cheap and unusually clarifying.
The conjunction
Conjunct, understanding a system is the vocation. Such people build frameworks other people then live inside, and are happiest when the framework is still being drawn. Maintaining a finished structure interests them considerably less than designing it did, which is worth knowing before appointing one of them to run something. Handing over the maintenance early, to somebody who enjoys it, is the sensible arrangement.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
