Jupiter and Lilith · the heresy
Jupiter in aspect to Lilith
Jupiter wants a doctrine and Lilith will not accept one. Together they make a person whose beliefs are genuinely their own and reliably outside the consensus. Where the orthodoxy is complacent this is valuable; where it is simply correct the pairing can spend enormous conviction on a position adopted mainly because it was not permitted. Telling the two cases apart requires a standard other than whether the belief is unpopular, and that is exactly the standard this configuration is least inclined to apply. A belief held because it is true survives being agreed with, which is the practical test.
What each body brings
| Jupiter | growth, faith, generosity |
|---|---|
| Lilith | the untamed and the refused |
The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
With a trine or a sextile the dissent is generous. The person argues with the tradition from inside it and improves it, and is tolerated because the affection is evident. Institutions that would expel a hostile critic keep this one, and are usually better for having done so. The affection has to be real; a performed version of it is detected immediately and does not buy the same licence.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposition, faith and refusal collide. Institutions are joined in order to be left loudly, or a private philosophy hardens past the point of conversation. The corrective is holding one belief provisionally and finding that the ground does not open — the fear underneath the rigidity is that conceding anything concedes everything, and it is worth testing rather than assuming.
The conjunction
Conjunct, the outsider's view is the whole worldview. Such people are persuasive, unclubbable and often right early, which is worth very little at the time and a great deal later. The conviction is genuinely theirs rather than borrowed, and it has usually cost them a professional opportunity or two. They are generally uninterested in being told they were right, having stopped waiting some years earlier.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
