Chiron in aspect to Vesta
Chiron is what did not heal and Vesta is what is kept sacred; together the injury becomes the discipline. The person dedicates themselves to the subject that hurt them and keeps that dedication going for decades, often without ever framing it as personal. It is one of the more productive ways to carry an old wound, and it can go an entire career without anybody, including the person, connecting the vocation to the reason for it. Somebody else generally makes the connection first and is careful about how they mention it.

The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
Trine or sextile, the practice genuinely tends the injury. Work and healing proceed together, and the person can say what the connection is without embarrassment, which is what makes them useful to others in the same position. The absence of embarrassment is what makes the connection sayable, and it is usually the thing that lets somebody else recognise their own version of it.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposition, the discipline is used to avoid the wound. The work is immaculate and the subject is never approached directly, and the arrangement can hold for a lifetime. Something outside the practice has to touch it, and it will not be another piece of work, however good. Colleagues who have worked with them for twenty years are often surprised to learn there was anything personal in it at all.
The conjunction
Conjunct, the vocation is the injury attended to daily. Such people are often extremely good at their field and unable to accept help within it, which colleagues notice long before they do. Accepting supervision, or being a patient in their own field, is the specific and almost unbearable exercise. It is worth attempting anyway, and it usually takes a colleague they respect to make it possible.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
