Chiron in aspect to South Node
Chiron marks what did not heal; the South Node says the person has organised around it so long that the arrangement feels like their nature. The compensating skill is exceptional, and the wound underneath it is barely looked at, because looking would question a structure that has held for decades and is admired by everyone. The admiration is the seal on it: nobody suggests dismantling something that is so evidently working, and the person has no language for describing what it costs. Admiration and inquiry rarely arrive together, and this configuration receives a great deal of the first.

The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
Trine or sextile, the old hurt has already been made useful. The person helps from experience, without display. The risk is a permanent role as the one who copes, which nobody thinks to relieve them of, and which they would find difficult to hand over even if somebody offered. Being asked what they need, directly and more than once, does most of the available good.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposition, the familiar pain resists the repair. Improvement is sabotaged quietly, because a self without the injury is unimaginable. Progress here comes from tolerating brief periods of being well, which are surprisingly hard to sit through — the absence of the usual weight registers as wrongness rather than as relief. Brief is the operative word: the tolerance builds in minutes rather than in decisions.
The conjunction
Conjunct, the wound is worn as identity. There is deep, hard-won wisdom about it and very little distance from it, and the invitation is to find out who is there when it is not being managed. That is a genuinely frightening question for this configuration, and it is generally approached late and with help.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
