Ceres and Vesta · feeding and abstaining
Ceres in aspect to Vesta
Ceres provides and Vesta withholds; the two make an odd, workable pair. Care is given inside strict limits — set hours, defined terms, a role rather than a relationship — and within those limits it is excellent. The person is often the professional carer rather than the family one, and does the job better for the boundary, which relatives frequently misread as a coldness that the patients and clients never encounter. The people receiving the care benefit from precisely the boundary the family objects to. The complaint and the competence have the same cause, which is rarely pointed out to either side.
What each body brings
| Ceres | nurture and the cycle of loss and return |

| Vesta | devotion and focus |
The soft aspects (trine or sextile)
Trine or sextile, provision and reserve support each other. The person gives fully during the shift and stops afterwards, which is what keeps them in the work for thirty years rather than three. The boundary is what protects the quality of the care, and anyone on the receiving end of it benefits from the fact that this person will still be doing the job next decade.
The hard aspects (square or opposition)
Square or opposition, nourishment and denial collide. Care is offered and then abruptly withdrawn, or the person feeds everyone and eats nothing themselves. Both are corrected by a limit stated in advance, and the limit has to be stated to the people affected rather than kept privately. A limit announced is a kindness; a limit discovered is experienced as a withdrawal.
The conjunction
Conjunct, tending is a discipline. It suits the vocation of care in its formal sense and struggles with the informal, unbounded kind that families expect. The distinction is real and is rarely accepted by the relatives. Where a family has one of these and expects the unbounded version, the resulting friction is usually blamed on the wrong thing entirely.
Reading it in a chart
The orb settles how strongly this shows: a contact within a degree is a defining feature of a chart, one at the edge of the orb is a colouring. The signs the two planets occupy change the manner, the houses change the arena, and a third planet touching either of them can change the reading entirely.
