Mars in the fourth house
Mars in the fourth house places heat at the root of things: home, family, ancestry and the end of any matter. Domestic life tends to be energetic and occasionally loud, whether the person is the source of that or grew up inside it. There is a strong protective instinct toward the household and a tendency to work hard on the physical house itself. Moves may be frequent, and the family story often includes someone with a temper. Because the fourth also describes late life and conclusions, this placement rewards making peace with the past rather than continuing to fight it.
In plain words
Mars stands for your drive and your temper. This house is the part of your life about home and family. Here, that shows up in your home, your family and where you come from.

Which sign holds it
Under whole-sign houses the rising sign settles every other house at once. If you know your Ascendant, this is the sign your fourth house holds and the planet that rules it.

Quadrant systems such as Placidus cut the houses by the angles instead, so a planet near a cusp can land in a different house from the whole-sign answer. The chart page shows both.
Reading it in context
A keynote is a starting point, not a verdict. What Mars actually does in your fourth house depends on its sign, its aspects, its dignity, and whether it is in sect. Two people with the same placement and different charts around it live it differently.
