Pluto in the fourth house
Pluto in the fourth house puts the pressure at the base. Family history tends to include something powerful: a dominant relative, a buried story, a reversal of fortune, a house that had to be left. Roots are felt strongly whether or not they are welcome, and this person often becomes the one who finally names what the family did not discuss. Home is rebuilt more than once, sometimes down to the foundations. Endings are handled thoroughly. What it asks for is to inherit consciously, keeping what is worth keeping and declining to pass the rest along.
In plain words
Pluto stands for your deepest feelings and your power. This house is the part of your life about home and family. Here, that shows up in your home, your family and where you come from.

Which sign holds it
Under whole-sign houses the rising sign settles every other house at once. If you know your Ascendant, this is the sign your fourth house holds and the planet that rules it.

Quadrant systems such as Placidus cut the houses by the angles instead, so a planet near a cusp can land in a different house from the whole-sign answer. The chart page shows both.
Reading it in context
A keynote is a starting point, not a verdict. What Pluto actually does in your fourth house depends on its sign, its aspects, its dignity, and whether it is in sect. Two people with the same placement and different charts around it live it differently.
